01 / Empathize - Finding out what users need

User Survey

A user survey was conducted as part of this user research. This survey helped me gain a clear understanding of Spotify users and their frustrations and goals. Although most Spotify users are content with the service, they frequently discover that the playlists don't fit their activities or mood. A lot of users show interest in having their playlists adjusted to suit their mood at any given time.
Spotify users mainly use the platform to listen to music for entertainment, relaxation, and mood enhancement. It would be great to have features like text and voice input for mood/state, preference customization, and playlist saving.
Personalized music therapy recommendations have the potential to boost user pleasure and loyalty, leading to an increase in referrals to friends.

Competitive Analysis

In summary, Spotify shines with its personalized music feature, offering tailored recommendations and mood-based playlists. While competitors like Calm and Headspace focus on meditation and relaxation, Spotify stands out for its music-centric approach. Its subscription model provides extensive content, though there's room for improvement in customization options. Overall, Spotify leads the pack in delivering personalized music experiences for relaxation and focus.

02 / Define - Pinpointing what users need and their challenges

Problem Statement

1. Lack of Personalization

Existing relaxation and meditation apps like Calm and Headspace do not offer personalized music therapy options tailored to individual mood and needs.

2. Generic Playlists

Users often encounter generic playlists or relaxing soundscapes that do not fully resonate with their current mood or mental state, leading to a sense of disconnection.

3. Limited Music Therapy Options

Users struggle to find music therapy recommendations within these apps, hindering their ability to manage stress, improve focus, and enhance relaxation effectively.

4. Lack of Customization

Limited customization options within existing apps prevent users from personalizing their relaxation experience according to their unique preferences.
